Adtec Plasma & RF Presentations

The presentations we offer our registered members for download (as PDF Files) are:

Introduction to RF

This module introduces some of the basic equations of electromagnetism, and classifies the various electromagnetic waves according to their wavelength/frequency. Radio Frequency, or “RF”, is put into its context in this spectrum of electromagnetic waves. The final part of this module, “Plasma Basics” is also available as a stand-alone download, and briefly explains what a plasma is, and how RF is used to ignite and sustain useful plasmas.

Sub-modules are entitled:

  • Electromagnetism
  • Electromagnetic waves
  • Classifications
  • Plasma Basics

Plasma Basics

Also available as part of the “Introduction to RF” module, this mini-module explains in under 5 minutes what a plasma is, and how one can be ignited.

RF Generators

This module introduces the basic construction of an RF power supply, and the principles of RF electronics and design. After a discussion of the main sub-systems in an RF generator, some common problems with RF generators are raised.

Sub-modules are entitled:

  • RF Electronics
  • Components
  • DC Power Supply
  • Amplifier Circuits
  • RF Generator problems

RF Matching

The sometimes confusing world of Impedance Matching is hopefully explained in this module, building up from the idea of a mis-match creating a standing wave, and the fundamentals of complex impedances. The Principles of matching are then introduced, and the beauty of the Smith Chart explained before a practical example of impedance matching is worked through. Finally the sub-systems necessary for an automated matching unit are outlined.

Sub-modules are entitled:

  • Standing Waves
  • Impedance fundamentals
  • Matching Principles
  • Smith Chart Introduction
  • Matching Example
  • Automated Matching Unit

Introduction to RF Power Measurement

This module introduces the concepts involved in measuring RF power with a wattmeter, or similar RF sensor, and goes on to discuss the various uses of a directional coupler, for example for measuring waveforms with an oscilloscope, or looking at the frequency distribution with a spectrum analyzer. There is also an explanation of Vpp and Vdc measurement, before taking a look at coaxial cable principles, and practical selection tips for RF applications.

Sub-modules are entitled:

  • Power Meters
  • Measurement of Waveforms
  • Vpp, VDC measurement
  • Coaxial Cables
